Hiatus Kaiyote Concert Tickets

Get ready to groove with your Hiatus Kaiyote tickets from TicketSmarter. Jammed with colorful, funky, eccentric melodies and jazzy, laidback grooves, Australian band Hiatus Kaiyote's worldly, melting pot of sounds has been dubbed as 'future soul' and sampled by hip-hop acts including Drake and Kendrick Lamar. Frontwoman and chief songwriter Nai Palm grew up in a chaotic but artistic household listening to her free-spirited mother's Stevie Wonder, flamenco and West African records while singing and dancing along to Spice Girls hits. But when her mother died from breast cancer and her father later in a house fire, she found herself as an orphan at just eleven years old and subsequently grew up in a series of foster homes. Turning to music as a therapeutic, creative release, she started writing songs and performing solo in Melbourne before uniting with local musicians Paul Bender (bass), Simon Mavin (keyboards) and Perrin Moss (drums) in 2011.

Her love of quirky scat singing along with an interest in different cultures and her spirit of independence became central to the band's unique personality and their sprawl of ideas and influences grew into languid, flowing, melodic grooves on their self-released debut album 'Tawk Tomahawk' in 2012. They went on to sign to rap producer Salaam Remi's Flying Buddah label and when A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip remixed and featured on single 'Nakamarra', they became the first Australian band ever to be nominated for a Grammy Award in the R&B genre.

They also found fans in Prince, Questlove and Erkah Badu and released EP 'Fire' before their second album 'Choose Your Weapon' became a hugely ambitious 18-track project full of trippy, sun-kissed jams, shifting time signatures and quixotic genre-clashes aimed to emulate the diverse spirit of a mixtape. Their profile grew rapidly when Drake sampled their track 'Building a Ladder' on his song 'Free Smoke' and Kendrick Lamar used a snippet of 'Atari' on his album 'Damn', before Nai Palm released her debut solo album 'Needle Paw' in 2017. You’re bound to hear a mix of R&B and soul tracks with your Hiatus Kaiyote tickets.
