Growing up in Liverpool, England, Nelson sang with the Liverpool Cathedral Choir and performed with them throughout Europe. Deciding to try a solo career, he moved to Toronto and worked with producer Stephen Kozmeniuk to release his first single “Ghosts” in 2015 under his first stage name, Raines. Several months later, he released “Shine A Light,” his second single, under his current stage name Banners. This was his breakout hit, reaching number five on the Billboard Canada rock chart as people took notice. Spotify highlighted him as one of fifteen artists to watch in 2016. After Banners signed with Island Records, they released his debut self-titled EP and used his song “Half Light” in the soundtrack for the TV series The Royals. Banners landed a spot on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing “Shine A Light” and then joined POP ETC and The Moth & The Flame for his first U.S. tour. His debut album, Where the Shadow Ends came out in 2019, and in 2020, his third EP, Always Yours, released. Banners’ singles have been used in multiple TV series, and Banner himself got to perform on American Idol.
