His swift popularity and growing fan base helped Barnes connect with producer Ed Cash who signed him onto Ripley Recordings. His first studio-released album, Brother, Bring the Sun, was released in 2004. Additionally, several of Barnes’ songs, including his famous “On a Night Like This,” were featured on the American hit sitcom, What I Like About You.

In 2018, Dave Barnes won his first Dove Award for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year with “Washed By the Water.”
