Fidelio Opera Tickets
Enjoy the intense beauty of the opera with Fidelio tickets. Beethoven's only opera, Fidelio, is a two-actor piece with spoken dialogue and recitative. The German libretto was created by Joseph Sonnleithner from the French of Jean Nicolas Bouilly which the work premiered at Vienna's theater a der Wien on November 20, 1805. Stephan von Breuning assisted in reducing this work the following year from three acts to two. Georg Friedrich Treitschke added further material to the libretto, which was completed at the Kärntnertortheater on May 23, 1814.
The libretto, which is spoken in some parts, depicts how Leonore, disguised as "Fidelio," a prison warden, rescues her husband Florestan from execution in a political jail. According to Bouilly, Beethoven's aesthetic and political views were reflected in his scenario: a tale of personal sacrifice, bravery, and triumph. Themes such as these, which had their roots in Beethoven's "middle period," were all too typical of his later works. The Prisoners' Chorus, an ode to liberty sung by a chorus of political detainees in Florestan's vision and Leonore when she finally comes for him. The scene where he is saved from prison also stands out as one which will never be forgotten by those who have witnessed it on stage or heard about it through word-of-mouth storytelling at home during this time period. The finale of the opera pays homage to Leonore's bravery with alternating soloist and chorus contributions. See the most riveting acting with Fidelio tickets.
