In 1978 Avalon played Teen Angel, singing Beauty School Drop-Out in the hit movie Grease and the lives of Avalon and another 1950s teen star Fabian are said to have been the inspiration for the 1980 film The Idolmaker, though they both denounced the film. Avalon made a cameo appearance with Robert De Niro in the 1995 film Casino, continuing to appear in films and occasional tours with a band including his sons Frankie Jnr and Tony.
