While she first began her career as a musician in the early 1980s, Siberry was always drawn to music and taught herself piano starting from age four. Later, she studied music theory and learned how to play the French horn and guitar.
When she was seventeen, Siberry finished her first single and began performing at local folk clubs in Guelph. She debuted her first album, Jane Siberry, in 1981. That same year, Jane Siberry tickets became available for the first time as she toured in support of her first album. Following the success of her album, Siberry signed on with A&M Records. She produced eight more albums during the 1980s and 1990s. In the early 2000s, Siberry briefly changed her name to Issa and began releasing albums under the new name before returning to her original artist name. Some of Siberry’s most popular albums, including Angels Bend Closer, Meshach Dreams Back, and Shushan the Palace: Hymns of Earth, debuted in the mid-2000s.
