Born in Providence in 2001, Lawson first developed an interest in music while taking piano lessons at his local church. As a young man, he briefly studied music education at the Community College of Rhode Island before setting off in pursuit of a professional music career. Lawson began uploading comedic skits and videos to TikTok in 2020, ultimately releasing his debut single “Upside Down” on the platform the following year.
“Upside Down” went viral overnight, making Lawson an internet celebrity. He went on to independently release his debut album This Is What ____ Feels Like in 2022, which reached the top of the Billboard 200. Later that year, his single “Golden Hour” reached the top 40 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart. Lawson has collaborated with several high-profile artists including Cat Burns, Galantis and Charlie Puth.
