See the classic rock hit-makers with Powerhouse tickets. Powerhouse is a British rock band from Newcastle that rose to fame in the 1970s. The current members are Brian Gibson, Tom Hill, Steve Dawson and Mark Wright. The group was formed in 1971, originally named Geordie. They quickly found mainstream success, as their debut single “Don’t Do That” reached the top of the UK Singles Chart. The band then released their first full-length album Hope You Like It in 1973.
At a time when there was a glut of rising British rock bands, Powerhouse nevertheless managed to make a name for themselves. Their songs “Can You Do It” and “All Because Of You” were top 20 hits, and saw the band enjoy a slew of prominent television appearances throughout the 70s.
The band became popular in Australia in particular and was one of the few bands from outside the country to make regular appearances at Lambton’s Savoy Theatre. Powerhouse released two more albums in the late 70s, No Good Woman and Save the World, before changing their lineup in 1980. Their 1983 release No Sweat was their most critically acclaimed, in particular for its use of heavy metal elements.
