They started in 1965 when they were founded by Bill Champlin and Tim Cain with Terry Haggerty on drums. Two years later, they grew to a seven-piece band adding a trumpet and a guy named Geoff Palmer. They also released their first hit single "Sing Me a Rainbow" debuting all over AM radio.
The Sons of Champlin were a San Francisco-based rock band that never received the recognition they deserved. Their philosophical themes, R&B and jazz tempos were way ahead for any other bands playing in those days when it came to ballrooms around town - but most importantly their horn section set them apart. After a hiatus, lasting 20 years following two reunion gigs at The Fillmore Auditorium, more concerts took place throughout 1997 with much success. A few months later, they recorded their first live CD under the cooperation of Grateful Dead Records. The magic of their live shows topped the sounds of their albums.
