About Trans-Siberian Orchestra
See everyone’s favorite Christmas event with Trans-Siberian Orchestra tickets or TSO for short as most fans like to call them. The Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) was founded in 1996 by Paul O’Neill, Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli. What O'Neill envisioned was mixing rock and classical with drama to create a sound that was epic meets rock opera. The name of the band echoes the epicism and grandiosity of the music – Siberian vistas and grandiosity.
Their first album Christmas Eve and Other Stories (1996) featured a rock opera, an amalgamation of Christmas and rock/classical music. Album standouts are "Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24" and "A Last Illusion." The Christmas Attic sequel followed up and features a few hits like "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve" and "The March of the Kings."
Then in 2000, TSO presented Beethoven’s Last Night with hit tracks off this album, "The Dark," and "Waltz No. 6 in A-flat Major." With Christmas Canon Rock and Wizards in Winter, they rounded out their Christmas-themed discography on The Lost Christmas Eve (2004). There are more songs on their rock/organ-infused double album Night Castle (2009) including "Night Castle" and "The Safest Way into Tomorrow."
The band Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s blend of rock, classical and drama has left them an unusual and influential artist in the musical landscape. They still have people all over the world listening to their holiday rock operas and jaw-dropping shows. FAQ About Trans-Siberian Orchestra Concerts
How Did Trans-Siberian Orchestra Get Its Name?
- The name Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) reflects the name given to the band by its founder Paul O’Neill in response to the expansive and multicultural nature of its sound. O’Neill needed a name that implied something great, special and universal. He went with "Trans-Siberian" because the Trans-Siberian Railway, which runs through Russia and links different regions, symbolically moves from one place to another across vast distances and unites worlds. And so did TSO, whose music tried to be both genreless and to fuse rock, classical and theatre into something shared with all. The addition of "Orchestra" made the group seem symphonic and monumental.
