Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio first met one another as students attending Columbia University. The group quickly decided to form an indie rock band they called Vampire Weekend. The group began putting on local performances at venues like Lerner Hall in 2006.
The band was first thrust into the limelight at a much larger scale between 2007 and 2008. Their 2007 hit song “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” managed to climb its way to number 67 on Rolling Stone’s 100 best songs of the year list. The group also managed to score their first international tour with rock band The Shins this same year. In 2008 Vampire Weekend was featured on popular television shows Saturday Night Live and the Late Show with David Letterman. Spin magazine had even called them the year’s best new band. If indie rock music fits your style, TicketSmarter is the go-to ticket provider for all your Vampire Weekend tickets.
2010 marked another explosive year for Vampire Weekend. Their popular 2010 album titled Contra made it all the way to number one on the Billboard 200. The band performed live at events like Coachella and the Austin City Limits Music Festival. Their overseas popularity soared after their concerts at events like the Oxegen Festival in Ireland and the Latitude Festival in the UK.
In 2013 Vampire Weekend once again reached number one on the Billboard 200 with their album Modern Vampires of the City. A year later, the band received a Grammy for the best alternative music album. The group continued to push on even after the departure of founding member Rostam Batmanglij in 2016. This same year they performed live at an event for Bernie Sanders. The band went on to sign with Colombia Records for their future music productions.
The band's popularity didn’t end here. Vampire Weekend sang on stage at the UK’s End of the Road music festival in 2018. Later that year, they performed at the popular music event Lollapalooza in Chicago.
