History of the Trans Siberian Orchestra
Trans-Siberian Orchestra was founded in 1996 by producer, composer and lyricist Paul O’Neill. Other members of the original creative team include Jon Oliva, Al Pitrelli and Robert Kinkel. The band went on its first tour in 1999 after releasing its second album The Christmas Attic and quickly became a household name selling more than 10 million concert tickets in the two decades since.
The Trans-Siberian Orchestra 2022 Tour will feature separate East and West coast bands that each travel with a crew of around 100 musicians. In a recent interview with USA Today, Pitrelli said both groups rehearse together in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before setting out on the road.
Between 1996 and 2015, Trans-Siberian Orchestra recorded a handful of studio albums including the wildly popular Christmas Trilogy. The Lost Christmas Eve (2004) was the final installment, joining Christmas Eve and Other Stories (1996) and The Christmas Attic (1999). All three were combined in 2005 and released as The Christmas Trilogy which came with a DVD of their 1999 television special The Ghosts of Christmas Eve. The 2022 tour borrows that name.
Some of the band’s biggest hits include “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24,” “Wizards in Winter” and “Christmas Canon.”
The Ghosts of Christmas Eve: The Best of TSO and More
The Ghosts of Christmas Eve is a holiday show that tells the story of a runaway who finds shelter in an abandoned theatre on Christmas Eve and is visited by ghostly visions from the venue’s past. The performance was taped at Loew’s Jersey Theatre in Jersey City, N.J., and the made-for-television film premiered on Fox Family on Dec. 14, 1999. It was released on DVD in 2001 and performed live on the winter tour from 2015 to 2018.
