In just a few months, the first puck will drop for the 2023-24 NHL schedule. The NHL regular season will begin on Oct. 10 with a tripleheader highlighted by a matchup between the reigning champion Vegas Golden Knights, who will raise the franchise’s first banner at T-Mobile Arena, and the Seattle Kraken at 10:30 p.m. ET. The Nashville Predators will face the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 5:30 p.m. ET game and the Chicago Blackhawks will play the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8 p.m. to kick off opening day.
Each team will play 82 regular-season games – 41 home and 41 away – in the 2023-24 NHL schedule including three or four against divisional foes, three against teams in the other division within their conference and two non-conference games totaling 1,312 across the league. The final games of the regular season are scheduled for April 18, 2024.
2023 NHL Global Series
Four teams are set to participate in four regular season games during the 2023 NHL Global Series – Sweden. The four teams are the Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs. Games are scheduled for Nov. 16–19 at Avicii Arena in Stockholm.
Outdoor Games
There are four outdoor games scheduled during the 2023-24 NHL season starting with the Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic on Oct. 29. The Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames will play at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton to mark the 20th anniversary of the NHL’s first regular-season outdoor game. On Jan. 1, 2024, the Seattle Kraken and Las Vegas Golden Knights will ring in the new year with a game at T-Mobile Park, home of MLB’s Seattle Mariners.
The 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series will also return with four teams in action Feb. 17–18. Both games will be played at MetLife Stadium, which is home to the NFL’s New York Jets and New York Giants. The New Jersey Devils will host the Philadelphia Flyers in the first game and the New York Rangers will face the New York Islanders in the second.
All-Star Weekend
Action will pause from Feb. 1–4 for NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto. The 2024 NHL All-Star Skills and 2024 NHL All-Star Game will be played at Scotiabank Arena.
2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs
The 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs schedule will be finalized at the conclusion of the regular season on April 18. Eight teams will advance from each the Eastern Conference and Western Conference to compete for their spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. In total, there are four rounds of best-of-seven series played in a 2-2-1-1-1 format.
