Rule Changes in 2024
There are a few new rules in place for the 2024 season that will help to improve the pace of play. The first reduces mound visits from five to four. Teams will however receive an extra mound visit in the ninth inning if they have used their previous four. Following a dead ball, the pitch clock will restart as soon as a pitcher receives a new ball from the umpire, rather than waiting until the pitcher enters the circle around the pitcher’s mound. If runners are on base, time will also decrease from 20 to 18 seconds.
The other two changes affect the width of the runner’s lane, which now extends to the infield grass in fair territory, and pitchers, who must face at least one batter if they warm up at the start of an inning.
How Much Are Opening Day Tickets?
As of March 20, the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers will host the two most expensive Opening Day games with get-in prices for both topping $100 on the resale market. The Dodgers, who acquired superstar Shohei Ohtani in the offseason, are leading the way with a get-in price of $139.44 and an average of $300.
