Experience the beauty of hot air balloons with Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta tickets. This annual event now showcases more than 500 hot air balloons each year, far more than the original 13 in 1972.
The Balloon Fiesta began as a 50th birthday celebration for KOB Radio in 1972. Dick McKee, the radio station manager at 770 AM, contacted his friend Sid Cutter who owned one of Albuquerque's Cutter Flying Services. On April 8, 1972, the two debuted the first fiesta to 20,000 spectators in the Coronado Center Shopping Mall parking lot.

For decades, the Balloon Fiesta expanded each year, and it remains the world's largest balloon event. Grand Est Mondial Air in France ranks second. One of the festival’s biggest years was 2000 when 1,019 balloons were registered. They introduced a limit the following year of 750, which proved to be far more manageable. Up to 100,000 people may be on the launch field on any given day of the festival, where they have access to rare views of inflation and takeoff procedures.
