Malikian was born in Beirut in 1968 and began learning to play the violin as a boy. At twelve he gave his first concert appearance, and at fifteen became the youngest student ever admitted into Germany’s Hochschule fur Musik und Theater Hannover. Malikian continued his studies at London’s Guildhall School, where he was mentored by renowned musicians including Ivry Gitlis and Ruggiero Ricci. During this time the violinist developed his signature style, which incorporates elements from Middle Eastern and Spanish classical traditions.
Malikian has won numerous international classical music competitions in Italy, Spain and Japan, and in 1993 was awarded the Prize for Artistic Devotion and Achievement by Germany’s Ministry of Culture. He has performed as a featured soloist with a slew of world-class groups including the Tokyo Symphony, London Chamber and Geneva Chamber Orchestras.
