Men’s lacrosse at West Point dates back to 1907, when Army played a game against Stevens Tech, with the cadets winning 3-1. The game was only played sporadically at West Point until 1921 when a permanent team was established. The team had a winning streak of 33 winning seasons, starting in 1922. In 1923, the team went 8-1-1 and was declared national champions by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.

The team has won over a dozen Patriot League Conference championships, the first in 1991. The Black Knights have also won more than one conference tournament championship. In the postseason, the school has made more than 15 NCAA Tournament appearances, advancing to the quarterfinals more than ten times and being in more than one Final Four.
