His first EP, titled Ben Rector, was released in 2006 while he was still a student at the University of Arkansas. The EP featured the song “Conversation” which won the Grand Prize in the pop category of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest that same year. His music is usually classified as adult contemporary pop and may draw comparisons to artists such as Matt Nathanson and Parachute. Rector’s first full-length album Twenty Tomorrow came out the following year. In 2009, Rector was given a Northwest Arkansas Music Award for best male singer-songwriter in Northern Arkansas. Shortly afterward, Rector moved to Nashville to continue his pursuit of a music career.

He toured with several singer/songwriters including Steve Moakler, Dave Barnes and Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. The title track helped the album debut at number nine on the Billboard Hot 200 chart, giving Rector his first top-10 album. The single charted on several Billboard charts and was heard by millions of fans both on the radio and across many TV show and ad placements. With seven studio albums, multiple hit singles and thousands of performances under his belt, Rector’s drive and commitment to his career are anything but “Brand New.”
