Betrayal Theatre Tickets

Get your Betrayal tickets today and see the play that’s “steeped in self-deception and hidden emotions.” Betrayal is a play that was written by Harold Pinter in 1978 and first produced by the National Theatre in London on June 15, 1978. Pinter’s extramarital affair inspired betrayal with BBC Television presenter Joan Bakewell. It spanned seven years, from 1962 to 1969. It centers around Emma and Robert, a married couple, and their “close friends” Jerry and Judith, who are also married. Jerry and Emma have been having an affair for five years until Emma, without telling Jerry, admits her infidelity to Robert, although she continues the affair. Four years after exposing the affair, Emma meets Jerry to say to him that her marriage to Robert is over. She lies to Jerry and tells him that she had to reveal the truth to Robert and that he now knows of the affair when he’s known about it for the last four years.

Pinter uses reverse chronology by starting the opening scene of the play after the affair had already ended in 1977 and the final scene is where the affair began in 1968. In between 1977 and 1968, scenes move forward chronologically. Get your Betrayal tickets at TicketSmarter today and see this story of an illicit affair that unfolds in reverse.
