Mummenschanz Show Tickets
See a spellbinding and surreal performance with Mummenschanz tickets. Mummenschanz is a mask and prop-based theatre troupe from Switzerland known for their subtle choreography, intricate use of light and shadow and oftentimes bizarre masks. The troupe takes its name from the German word for “mummery,” a type of traditional folk play typically performed door-to-door on holidays. “Mummer” is also a 16th century English term for a mime.
Mummenschanz was formed in 1972 in Altstatten, Switzerland by Floriana Frassetto, Andres Bossard and Bernie Schurch. After extensive studies with choreographers Roy Bosier in Rome and Jacques Lecoq in Paris, Mummenschanz set off on their first series of US and European tours in 1973. The group’s novel approach to dance and theatre saw them begin a three-year run on Broadway in 1977. That same year they appeared on The Muppet Show and Sesame Street, then in 1980 won the prestigious Rose d’Or prize.
Mummenschanz has since appeared in a slew of further television programs and music videos, and in 1995 toured across the world in collaboration with actor John Charles Murphy.
