As is common for most professional sports leagues, the Overwatch League employs a model in which permanent city-based teams, backed by corporate sponsors, compete across a regular season/playoffs format. The Overwatch League was created by the Blizzard Entertainment and Major League Gaming organizations in 2017 and features twenty teams divided across an East and West conference.
