Springfield Ballet Company Dance Tickets
Buy your Springfield Ballet Company tickets and make plans to enjoy a magical evening. The performing arts company is old of the oldest ballet companies in the state of Illinois. In 1975, there were two ballet companies in town: The Copper Coin Ballet and the Ballet Concert Group. Because the town couldn’t support two separate ballet companies, the two merged together and formed the Springfield Ballet Company (SBC). At the helm were three ladies who loved dance (Mildred Caskey, Dorothy Irvine and Grace Luttrell Nanavati) who laid the groundwork that allowed numerous professional dancers and choreographers to hone their craft and regularly perform for audiences. Mildred Caskey was a professional dancer on the east coast before returning to her Illinois roots. Dorothy Irvine, who was one of Caskey’s first students, also became a dance instructor. Grace Luttrell Nanavati, who trained under George Verdak (the head of Butler University’s dance department), became a co-director at the newly-formed ballet company.

The SBC put on a production of “The Nutcracker” for its inaugural performance; it was so successful, it became a yearly production. The company performs ‘storybook’ productions (such as “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Coppelia” and “Cinderella”) each spring and created their own productions for “Snow White” and “Pinocchio”. They also put on musical performances, such as “The Top Ten Greatest Artists of All Time” and “One Hit Wonders”. The SBC also hosts residencies, such as Jacob Frazier’s Jazz Dance History Residency Program, and workshops by guest artists Cesar Salinas and Joshua Blake Carter.
