Grobler initially rose to fame through his 2013 debut album When the Night, which earned praise for its vintage 80s sound reminiscent of acts like Eurythmics, Duran Duran and Tears for Fears.
Born in Johannesburg in 1983, Grobler found a love for music at a young age. As a boy, he performed in the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir, with whom he toured on the international stage. Grobler began writing his first songs at twelve years old, drawing on eclectic influences ranging from Sting and Phil Collins to Mew and Radiohead.
As a young man the artist trained at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, then moved to Brooklyn to pursue a music career full-time. In 2012 he was signed to Neon Gold Records, through which he released his debut album When the Night the following year. When the Night quickly garnered critical acclaim, and before long the artist was opening for high-profile acts like Passion Pit, Two Door Cinema Club and Charli XCX.
