The Spruce Kings were originally founded in 1972, as part of the Pacific Northwest Hockey League. They finally were upgraded to Junior A in 1980, and had beginner's luck and won the championship a year later. During the next sixteen years, the Spruce Kings have won a total of nine league titles, making themselves one of the best in all the teams in the league.
