They are known for frequently incorporating elements from genres like jazz, reggae and hip hop into their heavy metal sound, and are often compared to bands like Bad Brains and Living Colour.

24-7 Spyz came together in 1986 in the South Bronx, and swiftly developed a cult following in the underground music scene for their proficiency in multiple genres. They would regularly and seamlessly switch from Motown riffs and vocals to aggressive hardcore punk, among others. They signed with In-Effect Records in 1988, through which they released their debut album Harder Than You. The album is now widely regarded as a vanguard hit in the funk rock genre that would later enjoy popularity through groups like Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit.

Despite a number of lineup changes in the late ’80s and early ’90s, 24-7 Spyz continued to receive rave reviews from critics, in particular for their 1991 EP This is… 24-7 Spyz!.
