Jonathan Jamal Porter born Jan. 20, 1997 and better known by his stage name Blueface, is an American rapper and songwriter. Raised in Los Angeles, California. Porter grew up in Mid-City and attended multiple elementary schools before moving with his mother in Santa Clarita Valley, then a few years later settling with his father in Oakland. In high school Porter joined the marching band playing alto saxophone and the football team leading the team to an Easy Valley League championship. With an impressive record Porter committed to play for Fayetteville State University and played briefly before leaving to pursue his dream of fame. Porter lists his musical influences as 50 Cent, The Game, and Snoop Dogg.
He began rapping under the name Blueface Bleedem, a reference to his ties to the School Yard Crips street gang. Porter released his first song “Deadlocs” produced by Laudiano onto SoundCloud. In June of 2018, he released his first full-length album Famous Cryp. His video for the song “Respect My Crypn” was featured on Worldstar HipHop’s YouTube channel and quickly went viral and even became a meme. This raised the price of Blueface concert tickets. His true rise to fame came from the hit single “Thotiana” holding a contest and even signing to Cash Money Records West Coast affiliate Cash Money West which helped further expand his audience.
