Creedence Clearwater Revisited was formed in 1995 by bassist Stu Cook and drummer Doug “Cosmo” Clifford, both former members of the original band, Creedence Clearwater Revival. Although most of the music the band plays were written and arranged by John Fogerty, when Cook and Clifford proposed the idea of the new band to Fogerty, he wanted nothing to do with it. He thought it would confuse the fans into thinking that Revival was still an ongoing band, just under a different name. Cook and Clifford never had any real intention of playing for the public but were talked into it by a friend. Once they added Steve Gunner, who plays rhythm guitar, harmonica, keyboard, and sang backup vocals, they also added Elliot Easton on lead guitar. John Tristao was added to play rhythm guitar and lead vocals to take Fogerty’s place since he declined to be in the band.
