The play was then performed in Greece for the first time in 1948 and then debuted in London in 1949. It premiered in Australia in 1950. A film of the play was released in 1951, with many of the cast members of the original play as well as the director, including Marlon Brando as Stanley. Numerous adaptations, including ballet and television productions, have been performed.
