The subject matter of the band’s material frequently references suicide, violence and substance abuse which has led to some controversy on social media where the band has been criticized for using graphic images on the cover of the band’s 2012 album, Chasing Ghosts. Each of these has debuted at number one in the ARIA Charts. The band has continued to gain fans with each album they release Let the Ocean Take Me (2014), This Could Be Heartbreak (2016), Misery (2017) and Everyone Loves You...Once You Leave Them (2020). The Amity Affliction’s innovative music have earned the band five Queensland Music Awards and numerous ARIA Music Award nominations.
