He was born Darryl Lynn Hughley in 1961 inside the Portsmouth region of Virginia. However, his family moved to the South Central area of Los Angeles right after he was born. During his teenage years, he became involved with gang activity but he turned his life around after getting expelled from High School. After he got his GED and landed a job at the Los Angeles Times, he pursued a career in comedy. He became the host of BET’s Comic View from 1992 to 1993. After finding success in standup, he wrote and starred in the comedy sitcom called The Hughleys from 1998 to 2002. Hughley was also one of the Original Kings of Comedy alongside Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac. He went on to host CNN’s D.L.
