The original production featured Brown and King as the sole cast members. A limited-run reprisal of the musical is scheduled for the fall of 2023, starring Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells, who previously starred together in the Broadway debut of The Book of Mormon.

King and Scott previously worked together to write the Beetlejuice book, based on the hit 1988 movie. Following its run, Gutenberg! The Musical received several nominations in 2007 including Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Book of a Musical and Outstanding Direction of a Musical and an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical.
