With this historic transition, the team decided to remodel their identity in order to better reflect that change, thus giving birth to the Fayetteville Marksmen.

However, despite all the uncertainty surrounding the team, Fayetteville would still manage to consistently produce one of the top teams in the SPHL, while ensuring that Fayetteville Marksmen tickets remain a must-have among local hockey fans.

The season that had perhaps most solidified Fayetteville’s status as a top-tier SPHL competitor would be in 2006-07. Under the leadership of head coach John Marks, Fayetteville advanced all the way to the league’s finals for the first time in team history. In a total of four games, the then-FireAntz would win a thrilling series against the Jacksonville Barracudas, earning the team their first President’s Cup as well as Fayetteville's first professional sports championship in 51 years.
