In 2023, she made history as the first transgender person to win a Grammy Award for best pop duo/group performance for her song "Unholy" with Sam Smith. She also graced the cover of Sports Illustrated's annual swimsuit issue that year.

She began her career as a teenager with her debut EP “One Piece of Tape” in 2011. Her music combines pop, dance-pop and electropop. Her sound is based on the 1980’s Italo Disco and the late 1990’s pop scene. She cites her inspirations at Lady Gaga, Madonna, Beyonce, and Freddy Mercury, among others. In 2008 and 2009, she released a string of records under Joyce Records including Fade Away, Last Forever, Die for You and Boomerang.

In 2020, she announced that she would be the supporting act on the European leg of Camila Cabello’s Romance Tour. She announced her Feed the Beast world tour in 2023 in support of her album of the same name.
