Since hitting the scene with the debut album Fatal Portrait (1986), King Diamond has recorded an extensive catalog, including Conspiracy (1989) and The Spider’s Lullabye (1995). Their painted-faced frontman (reminiscent of KISS’s Gene Simmons) was born Kim Bendix Petersen and helped create their occult persona. They scored a 2008 Grammy Award nomination for Best Metal Performance for the song “Never Ending Hill” and have toured across Europe and the U.S., performing at events like Ozzfest.
Touring members of the band have included Andy LaRocque, Mike Wead, Pontus Egberg and others, whose dark and Satanic-based lyrical content appeals to fans of occult music and gothic black metal. The act attributes its influences to artists like Alice Cooper and English singer Arthur Brown, whose theatrical operatic voice is comparable to Petersen’s. In 2019, they released the live album Songs for the Dead, and in 2024, launched the 'Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920' North American Tour with support from Overkill, Night Demon and special guest Myrkur. King Diamond can be found performing at venues like the Vibrant Music Hall in Waukee, Iowa.
