One of their early songs “Quicksand” was a hit in the city’s underground music scene, and earned the artists a deal with SouthBeat Records. They released a music video in 2006 featuring the singer Cee-Lo Green, which went viral online with over 2 million views in its first 24 hours. Mayday released their self-titled debut album later that year before adding Ben Miller, Andrews Mujica, Terrel and Gianni Perocapi to the group. The new lineup released their first EP The Thinnest Line in 2009.

Mayday’s internet celebrity and reputation for genre-bending hip hop saw them collaborate with star artist Lil Wayne for their 2010 mixtape Lords of the Fly. The following year rapper Tech N9ne invited the group to collaborate on his album Welcome to Strangeland. Impressed by their skill, Tech N9ne signed the group to his Strange Music label shortly afterward. Mayday again went viral with their single “Badlands,” and in 2012 were listed as one of the 50 Best Miami Bands of All Time by Miami New Times.
