The singer, songwriter, producer and actress Paloma Cecilia San Basilio Martinez, known professionally as Paloma San Basilio, was born November 22, 1950, in Madrid, Spain. She has sold millions of records as a singer and has appeared in numerous musicals.
San Basilio was raised first in Seville, and then in Lugo. Prior to pursuing singing professionally, she studied psychology and philosophy at the Complutense University in Madrid. In the 1970s, San Basilio became the host of the weekly television program Siempre en domingo as well as acting in the zarzuelas program Divertido sigio.

In 1980, she starred in the Spanish version of Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Evita, which earned the praise of the composer himself for her performance. The show made her immensely popular in Latin America. Other musicals she has appeared in include Man of La Mancha, My Fair Lady and Sunset Boulevard.
