After establishing himself in America, Rey Ruiz quickly became one of the most prolific solo salsa singers in the United States. He was signed on to Sony Records and released his first album, Rey Ruiz, in 1992. The platinum album earned Rey several awards, including the Tropical New Artist of the Year award.
Rey Ruiz tickets became far more popular after being declared the "Salsa Singer of the Year" in 1993. Rey released his second album, Mi Media Mitad, that same year. The new album made the Billboard list in the U.S. and topped the charts in Europe. After the album's release, Rey Ruiz performed at New York's Madison Square Garden and earned the New Tropical/Salsa Artist of the Year award from Lo Nuestro Awards.
In 1995, Rey Ruiz released his third consecutive platinum album, En Cuerpo y Alma, an international hit for the tracks "Vuelve de Nuevo Conmigo" and "Estamos Solos." Throughout the 1990s, Rey released several more albums, including Destino, Porque es Amor and Ya Ves Quien Soy.
