The group appeared on the television show Star Search in 1983 and won the grand prize. As a result, they were signed by Capitol Records in 1984. The band has recorded twenty studio albums, three of which have been certified gold in the United States for selling more than 500,000 copies. Sawyer Brown has many hits on the country charts, including #1 hits “Some Girls Do” and “Step that Step”.

Sawyer Brown was originally called Savannah, but when a band with the same name appeared on the scene, they renamed the group after a Nashville street called Sawyer Brown. The band has collaborated with artists such as Joe Bonsall, Randy Scruggs and Mac McAnally, who wrote several songs for the group that helped redirect their sound to a more serious style away from pop-country. The band has won several awards over the years, including a Horizon Award from the Country Music Association and five Vocal Band of The Year Awards from the TNN Music City News Country Awards.
