Their sound draws upon contemporary influences such as Fatboy Slim and The Chemical Brothers but older music enthusiasts may also detect shades of Tangerine Dream and other early experimental bands in the group's recordings.

After relocating to Los Angeles the two friends began experimenting in their home studio and after signing a deal with Outpost Recordings in 1996 work began in earnest on their debut album. The album was called 'Vegas' and is a compilation of ten tracks from which four singles were released including 'Comin' Back' which reached number one in the Billboard Dance Club Charts and became the group's most successful single release and The Crystal Method ticket sales began to heat up. Although the band lacked some of the edginess and creativity of their European counterparts in the electronic genre, they carved themselves a niche and their music has been featured in numerous contemporary film and TV productions as well as in a number of advertising campaigns. In 2017 Jordan decided to retire from the music business but The Crystal Method continues to exist as a solo project under the stewardship of Kirkland.
