The band came together in 2018, taking their name from the early 2000s Japanese drama film Linda Linda Linda. Their songs were also used in the film Moxie after comedian Amy Poehler saw them perform at the Hollywood Palladium. In 2021 The Linda Lindas became an online viral sensation for their music video for the song “Racist, Sexist Boy,” which earned public praise from groups like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine and Thurston Moore. Later that year the band signed to Epitaph Records, through which they released their debut studio album Growing Up shortly afterward.
