Gerry McCambridge was born on October 31, 1962, in Brooklyn, New York. The same exact day Harry Houdini died. Starting at the age of nine, Gerard was captivated by magic. At the age of 12, Gerard began performing magic shows for money at a neighbor's birthday party. He coined himself "Gerard the Great." He added a few mentalism routines to his magic show after years of studying psychology and learning from his father, who was a NYC detective and an expert at interrogation. To improve his mentalism, he has studied memory techniques, body language interpretation, stage hypnosis, linguistics, statistics, the law of averages, non-verbal communication, acting, theatre and stand-up comedy. In 2002, Gerry retired his last name and assumed the moniker "The Mentalist."
