The team was originally formed in 1994 as the Jamestown Jammers, a Short-Season A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, based in Jamestown, N.Y. In 2014, the team announced it was moving to Morgantown, W.V., for the 2015 season. A fan vote was run to determine the new name of the team, and the name Black Bears was announced on October 22, 2014.
