In the mid-1960s, Clapton left the band the Yardbirds to play with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. A few years later Clapton formed the power trio Cream with Ginger Baker on the drums and bassist Jack Bruce. Clapton’s solo career began in the 1970s with influence drawn from the mellow style of J.J. Cale and reggae legend Bob Marley. Interestingly his version of Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff” helped the reggae genre reach the mass public. Clapton is the recipient of 18 Grammy Awards and the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, among many other accolades including the Lifetime Achievement Award. As far as album sales, Clapton has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, making him one of the best-selling musicians of all time.

Outside of music, Clapton has been a generous donor in his philanthropic endeavors. As a recovering alcoholic and drug addict himself, Clapton founded the Crossroads Centre on Antigua, a medical facility for recovering substance abusers. Eric has a large discography including works, such as, “There’s One in Every Crowd,” “The Breeze: An Appreciation of JJ Cale” and “Me and Mr. Johnson.” He has also released a collaborative album with B. B. King. Clapton’s work has and will continue to influence musicians all over the world.
