Formed in 1977, the Los Angeles punk outfit has come to be one of the most renowned punk acts in the nation and are credited with bringing their style of hardcore punk to the masses. Though the group has endured a number of lineup changes over the years, they have always remained fronted by founder member singer-guitarist Lee Ving. 

The punk rockers officially hit the scene in 1978 with their debut single “I Love Livin’ in the City” and a couple of years later found themselves a part of Penelope Spheeris’s documentary film, The Decline of Western Civilization. The film brought the band to the attention of actor and comedian John Belushi, who successfully landed them a musical guest spot on Saturday Night Live. Their performance on the program has become iconic for its chaos and massive energy, complete with moshing and damage to the stage. The following year they released their debut album, The Record, after signing with Slash Records which has since been included on many top lists in punk music. They are responsible for a number of other massive releases throughout their career including 1985’s More Beer and 2000’s American Beer, eventually focusing solely on live performances.
