Filthy Friends has seen many members come and go, including Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic. The group was first formed in Portland, Ore., in 2014 under the name Super Earth. Within two years they had changed their name to Filthy Friends and given their earliest performances in a series of live shows in honor of David Bowie.
Later in 2016 Filthy Friends released their first single “Despierta,” which gained attention for its criticism of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump. The following year they signed to the Kill Rock Stars label, through which they released their debut album Invitation. Filthy Friends received critical acclaim for their unique fusion of musical elements from the members’ previous bands, and quickly became one of the leading groups in alternative rock.
