Jacksonville has had baseball teams dating back to the 19th century. The Southern League of Base Ballists lists six teams based in Jacksonville in 1866. The team now known as the Jumbo Shrimp started out as the Jacksonville Suns as a Double-A team that came to Jacksonville in 1970. The new Suns team were affiliates of the Montreal Expos and the Milwaukee Brewers the first season but soon became affiliated with Kansas City
