Kansas along with the Iowa Hawkeyes, Missouri Tigers, and Nebraska Cornhuskers were charter members of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Atheltic Association (MVIAA) in 1907. This conference later became the Big Eight Conference. Then in 1996, it evolved into the Big 12 Conference. The Kansas Jayhawks are the only founding member of the MVIAA still in the Big 12. Football also competes in the FBS, though they only have a 6-6 bowl record. Their last win was the Insight Bowl against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in 2008. Under head coach Mark Mangino, they won 50 games over eight seasons including a trip to the Orange Bowl against the Virginia Tech Hokies in 2007. Currently, the Jayhawks are coached by Les Miles, former LSU Tigers head coach. Through the 2019 season, the Jayhawks have posted a 588-649-58 regular-season record.
