The Steelheads are a minor league ice hockey team that plays in the Ontario Hockey League or OHL. The team plays in the Eastern Conference in the Central Division. Mississauga plays its home games at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre, which can seat 5,420.

The first team to play in the OHL from Mississauga was the Mississauga IceDogs, who played in Mississauga from 1998 to 2007 before moving to Niagara. The next team to play for Mississauga was the St. Michael’s Majors, who played there from 2007 to 2012.  The St. Michael’s Majors hosted the Memorial Cup in 2011. In 2012, the team has renamed the Steelheads, with the first coach being James Boyd.

They also have earned the Bobby Orr Trophy by winning the Eastern Conference title. They also have finished runner-up for the J. Ross Robertson Cup. A number of Steelheads players have gone on to compete in the NHL. Nathan Bastian played with the Steelheads for four seasons from 2013 to 2017.  He has gone on to play in the NHL for the New Jersey Devils. Another player is Dylan DeMaio who spent four years with the Steelheads before going on to play for the San Jose Sharks, the Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets.

Mississauga Steelheads Schedule

As a member of the OHL, the Mississauga Steelheads play 68 regular-season games between September and March. At the end of the regular season, eight of the 10 teams from each conference advance to the OHL playoffs and compete for the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
