The Mountaineers are the male and female athletes that represent Mount St. Mary’s in Emmitsburg, Maryland with its 2240 students. The Mountaineers are in the Northeast Conference, or NEC, and compete in the NCAA Division I. There are twelve women’s sports and ten men’s.

Mountaineers baseball is played at E.T. Straw Family Stadium, which is part of the PNC Sports Complex. Both the women do cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field at Morgan Track, which was built in 1980 and resurfaced in 2009. The track is regularly used for the NEC Track and Field Championships.

Root for the blue and white with Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineer tickets.  Knott Arena, which can hold 3,500 fans configured for basketball, is the home of the men’s and women’s basketball teams.  The Men’s basketball team has the distinction of winning the 1962 Division II National Championship in basketball, defeating the San Francisco State Hornets 58-57. The men’s team has also been to the NCAA tournament.

Waldron Family Stadium, with a capacity of 1,000 fans, is the home to both men's and women’s soccer and La Crosse are played there.  The men’s team has won the NEC championship at least once.

There have been multiple Olympians who have attended Mount St. Mary’s. At least 4 Mountaineers have also been decathletes in the Olympics. George Werther has the distinction of being the first man to finish four Olympic decathlons in 1988.
