Come listen to live classical music with National Philharmonic tickets. The National Philharmonic at Strathmore is an orchestra with over fifty musicians based in Bethesda, Maryland. The orchestra was founded in the mid 1980s as the Montgomery Chamber Orchestra.
The orchestra’s home concert hall is the Strathmore, a cultural and artistic venue in Bethesda, Maryland. Strathmore was founded in 1981 and consists of two main halls: The Mansion and the Music Center. The National Philharmonic plays at the Music Center, which seats 1,976 and opened in 2005.
The National Philharmonic was founded as the Montgomery Chamber Orchestra by principal conductor Piotr Gajewski. It merged with the Masterworks Chorus in 2003 and became the National Philharmonic. The orchestra was originally based in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theater in Rockville, Maryland. When the Music Center at Strathmore opened in 2005, the orchestra took residence there.

The National Philharmonic puts on over thirty performances a year and is the biggest and most active orchestra in Montgomery County, Maryland. The ensemble is often accompanied by world-renowned guest artists such as Sarah Chang, Zuill Bailey and Brian Ganz. The group is also often joined by the lead musicians of other elite orchestras in the area, such as the National Symphony Orchestra’s Nurit Bar-Joseph.
In addition to performing, the orchestra provides hands-on instruction in the Montgomery County Public Schools from second grade through high school. In addition, concerts are free to all youths.
